Dairy Development Project

Project Highlights

  • In 63 targeted villages, 18 Milk Cooperatives are operating successfully on a self-sustainable model, with 6,602 registered dairy farmers. Since the program's inception in 2007, these cooperatives have generated a cumulative revenue of INR 202.63 crore, including INR 66.31 crore in FY’24 alone.
  • Across 33 Self Help Groups (SHGs) supported by Cairn, 387 women have been engaged and have ensured savings of INR 18.01 lakhs till FY 23-24. building upon the basic level trainings provided to these women, they have undergone additional trainings in supplementary areas and have established connections with financial institutions like ICICI Bank to access soft loans.
  • To enhance milk production, 2,645 farmers in over 40 villages have been provided with agricultural aid including 68,000 Napier grass cuttings, 184 vegetable kits provided to female farmers, 20kg Azolla grass, and 303 fodder beet plants, resulting in the production of good quality green fodder for more than 6000 animals.
  • As a result of effective coordination with government departments and local dairy cooperatives, 39 cooperatives received a bonus of INR 75 Lakh from Banas Dairy, a subsidiary of Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Limited (GCMMF).
  • Our Mobile Veterinary Van (MVV) has treated more than 33,845 cattle under its monthly service camps, directly benefiting 3,204 families engaged with the project.
  • 2 Veterinary Solution Shops, situated in Gudamalani and Dewda areas of Barmer, have provided support to 1,912 families and their 9,442 cattle.
  • To foster community ownership, various activities have been conducted in collaboration with the village Sarpanch, Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRI) members, and Bhamashah (Philanthropist) resulting in a convergence of INR 19,92,584.
  • The introduction of Shobha Kalmi Khejri has been successful, with 194 members across 28 villages receiving a total of 500 plants, showing promising results in the project area.

Project Highlights

  • 62 Milk Cooperatives are running successfully, generating a cumulative revenue of INR 17.04 crore since inception.
  • Currently, 20 milk cooperatives are operating in a self-sustainable mode.
  • 387 women engaged across 33 Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and have ensured savings of INR 16.27 Lakhs till date.
  • To enhance milk productivity, more than 1000 farmers have been provided with Napier grass and fodder beet, resulting in the production of good quality green fodder for around 6000 animals.
  • 3 Animal Fodder units have been established to produced nutritious food supplement for the livestock, sold reasonable rates to marginalized farmers.
  • 39 cooperatives received a bonus of INR 75 lakh with a 6.9% rate of interest from Banas Dairy (a subsidiary of GCMMF procuring milk from our cooperatives).
  • Over 30,000 cattle have been treated through regular lumpy skin disease awareness and treatment camps held August 2022.
  • 2 Vet Solution Shops and a Mobile Veterinary Van (MVV) cater to 40,000 livestock.

Project Highlights

  • Till date close to 5,683 cooperative member farmers over 61 villages have been positively impacted out of which 621 were onboarded this year
  • 363 women have been engaged across 31 Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and have ensured savings of INR 14,61,630 to date. These women are trained in allied activities and linked with financial institutions for soft loans.
  • To enhance the milk productivity, more than 2,024 farmers have been provided fodder, 2,129 have been provided napier grass and 308 have been given sugar beet inputs
  • Through innovative initiatives like Mobile Veterinary Vans and one-stop solution shops more than 2,526 Families have benefitted.

Project Highlights

  • A total of 40,406 farmers have benefited across 56 villages.
  • An average increase of 7,304 litres of milk per day has taken milk collection from 12,500 litres/day to 19,804 litres/day which is sold at INR 42.89 per litre as compared to the market rate of INR 30 per litre.
  • Cumulative revenue generated under this project till date is 1051.07 million.
  • The project has increased farmers average income to INR 12,500/per month additionally. Till date close to 5,000 farmers over 56 villages have been impacted
  • Out of the 56 dairy cooperatives, 20 dairy cooperatives are in the process of becoming self governed, while 10 milk cooperatives are already running in the self-sustainable mode
  • To enhance the milk productivity, more than 1706 farmers in 44 Villages have been provided with Napier grass and fodder beet, resulting in the production of 8750-ton green fodder for around 17000 animals in such harsh climatic conditions.
  • Through innovative initiatives like Mobile Veterinary Vans and one-stop solution shops more than 2959 Families have benefitted.

Project Highlights

  • Across 46 intervention villages, a total of 4408 registered dairy farmers are associated as on date with the project, generating a cumulative revenue of more than INR 817.03 Million.
  • 289 women have been engaged across 24 SHG has ensured a saving of INR 11,95,990 till date. These women are trained on allied activities and linked with financial institutions like ICICI bank for soft loan. These groups have till date received a loan of ~27 lakh, out of which 6.5 lac was sourced this year.
  • To enhance the milk productivity, more than 1500 farmers have been provided with Napier Grass and fodder beet, which has resulted in producing 6750-ton green fodder for around 13000 animals in this climatic condition.
  • Through innovative initiatives like Mobile Veterinary Van and One stop solution shop more than 1520 cattle have benefited.
  • 289 women have been engaged across 24 Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and have ensured savings of INR 11,95,990 to date. These women are trained in allied activities and linked with financial institutions like the ICICI bank for soft loans. These groups have received a loan of ~INR 27 lakh to date, out of which 6.5 lakh was sourced this year.
